Hello world!

Isa Hello World! I come in peace. This is my first blog and so far its pretty terrible. Starting a blog with a bad joke is no way to get people subscribing I suppose, so thanks for getting this far.

I’m starting this blog as a way to document all of my radical kitesurfing adventures. I hope to get a few things out of it, such as write everything down before I forget. But what I am really hoping for is that someone will read this blog, maybe before or during their own kitesurfing adventures, and be able to use my experiences to their advantage on their own travels. I also hope this blog reaches people who are on the fence about traveling, and inspires them to just buy the plane ticket and GO! Here is one of my favorite quotes to get that process started…

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

-Mark Twain

Kitesurfing was a life-changer for me. After my college graduation I set out to find that perfect career I’d been training for over the last 4…4 1/2 years (I added a minor ;) . I tried so many different jobs – selling toys outside of retail spaces and banks, door-to-door sales, insurance sales, securities…I even tried real estate. I actually loved real estate, but probably got into it at the worst possible time to be selling homes in the history of the U.S.

After that, I settled into a desk at a PR and marketing firm. I had an office! Four white walls, a door, and a window that was about 1 foot from top to bottom and about 8 feet from the floor. My signature move…closing the door, moving my chair over to the window and standing on it so I could see outside and watch the dogs at doggie daycare play across the street. For two years I settled into this office. I started off bright-eyed and bushy tailed, but quickly ran into some buzz kills when Human Resources (one lady) got on my case about being 3 minutes late back from lunch and using the last roll of toilet paper in the women’s bathroom. Meanwhile she was showing other girls in the office pictures of fuzzy pickles posted on plenty of fish profiles. I digress…

About the same time I finally ran into an old college friend who was teaching kitesurfing in Virginia Beach. Mia Capps of Happy Winds Kiteboarding and Waterports taught me how to kitesurf, and then got me a job teaching for 6 months of the Winter in the beautiful Florida Keys. Mia and the sport of kitesurfing are responsible for the destruction of my perfectly good desk job with benefits…and for that, I can’t thank her enough. This is the first and last blog that will go on about me, but I just thought I’d give you a little history. The rest of my entries will feature beautiful, remote destinations and the people along the way. I hope you dig it. Safe Travels :)
